About Me

Hi my name is Nathan Bowen and I'm fine artist that paints street murals in wasted spaces, in areas that are derelict and old, transforming these places in brand new areas of art. For example I would pick an old buildings which has been closed down for years, which are covered in wooden hoardings to secure the building. Then I would paint the wooden hoarding white so it then becomes a brand new canvas ready to be manipulated. I aim for areas which are, tatty and run down, spaces which have pointless graffiti tags spray painted all over them, like shut down shops and building hoardings.
When people think of street art they instantly think of spray painted graffiti and vandalism, my work is all performed live so I'm active with the public, I use pens and acrylic paint instead of spray paint.
My artwork reflects on recycling and the rebirth of old materials and spaces. I believe in the idea of after life; how an object or a product has a previous life which then expires and leads on to a new life which is classed as an after life. My artwork is a movement, a movement which promotes after life in a visual and creative manor, instead of after life through religion; I use mixed media's such as pens, acrylic paints and shoe polish.
This movement is known as 'After Lives', it's not just a concept based on recycling it is also an imaginative tale of my perspective of hell and its demons. I draw from my imagination, so all my work is improvised straight from my head, so nothing is planned, I want to steer away from the stereotypical idea that street art is always involved with spray painted. 'After Lives' breaks the barriers of day to day graffiti because of the use in different materials.
I'm a versatile artist who has many styles, I work fast, my work is dynamic and unique.
