Employment History & Experience
I play the piano to a grade 7 standard, but my main instrument is violin, here is my full performance experience:
I was in the National Children’s Orchestra Under 13’s in 2004/05 and then in the main National Children’s Orchestra in 2005/06. I was lucky enough to go on tour to China with the NCO in October 2006 and was the first ever European violinist to play in the Beijing Ancient Drum Tower. I have played in the first violins of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain in 2006/07 and 2007/08. With the NYO I have played at many prestigious venues including: The Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, The Sage Gateshead, Leeds Town Hall, Birmingham Symphony Hall and Glastonbury Music Festival.
In 2003, I won the David Stowe Cup and The Brenda Farrow Orpheus Prize at Leigh-On-Sea Music Festival, amongst numerous successes in several other classes. I was then invited to play in the Prize winners’ concert as the Best Overall String Player. I also got honours in the Junior Recital Class and Merit in the Open Concerto Class at Southend-On-Sea Music Festival.
In 2006, I won the Jena Pang prize for Junior Violin Solo, the Junior Unaccompanied Solo and the Open Age Concerto Class for violin, viola and cello at Southend-On-Sea Music Festival, and won the Open Age String Concerto Class in Chelmsford Music Festival. In the same year I won the Violin 13 Years Class, was commended in the North London Junior Recital Class and got a Distinction in the Kreisler Class. I also won the Violin Solo Age 14 and Under Class and the Violin/Viola Concerto Class (under 14 years) in the Ealing Music Festival. I was the first ever winner of the Juviler Cup at Ealing also.
In 2007, I came second in the Open Concerto Class in Bedfordshire Music Festival and won the Intermediate Recital Class. I was also Highly Commended in the Three Rivers Young Musician of the Year. In the same year I performed a newly commissioned work at Wigmore Hall as part of a string quintet. In 2008, I got to the BBC Young Musician of the Year String Finals and was the youngest string player and only violinist to so do. I also took part in a violin masterclass with Berent Korfker.
I perform regularly at concerts as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. I was the leader of the Purcell School Junior Orchestra, the Purcell School Sinfonia and I am now leader of the Purcell School Symphony Orchestra. In 2009 I took part in two concerts in Buckinghamshire and became a member of the Purcell School’s Outreach programme called ‘Impulse’ which has recently been award the Princess Diana Award. In 2010 I won the North London Festival String Concerto Competition (16-18 years) and performed in the ‘Chamber Music 2000’ celebrations at the Southbank Centre. This summer (2010) I took part in the La Mariette Masterclass Course in France with my previous teacher at the Purcell School, Erik Houston; on October 10th, I performed solo at the Wigmore Hall, and on October 31st I lead the Purcell School Symphony Orchestra at Merchant Taylors School. In November, I performed as part of a chamber ensemble at the House of Commons, and performed in a quartet in a charity Gala Evening at Cliveden Hotel.
In 2011 I have been chosen to play at the Wigmore Hall with my quartet in June. In March, I have performed in orchestras and chamber groups at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall. I will be attending the Royal College of Music from September 2011 after being offered places at both the Royal College and the Royal Academy of Music.
