General Experience

I joined the South Yorkshire Police in the rank of Constable in March 1980. Following initial training I was posted to West Bar Sheffield city centre division where I remained for seven years predominantly on unit beat mobile and foot patrols.
I spent the next two years on similar duties in the Hammerton Road district of the city followed by a two year attachment to an anti crime and vandal unit, tasks including on scene major crime enquiries, public order, surveillance, plain clothes.
I returned to general mobile beat patrol in 1990 and from 1992 to 2005 worked as a Community Constable in the Shirecliffe (1992 to 1995), Walkley (1995 to 2003) and Greystones (2003 to 2005) areas. Part of my duties in this role included drugs input in local schools and involvement in the S.Y.P’s Crucial Crew project.
The last five years were spent in the Crime Management Unit at Ecclesfield and Attercliffe Police Stations where numerous duties involved investigation of minor crimes, e.g. retail and forecourt crime, vehicle crime, victim care, and general management of all crimes reported to the district.
I have been Police Support Unit trained (public order, football, special events) and have been attached to a P.S.U. for the majority of my service.

Qualifications & Training

Gainsborough Queen Elizabeths Grammar School; 1972 to 1977 attained 5 GCE ‘O’ level passes as follows:
Mathematics grade ‘B’
English Language grade ‘C’
Geography grade ‘B’
French grade ‘B’
Physics grade ‘C’

Lincoln College of Technology; 1977 to 1979
