Details:

Growing Old Gracefully, a new British comedy musical drama beginning Principal Photography in Manchester, England, July 2019, is casting for ;

Extras & Supporting Actors

The movie is casting for Extras, Supporting Artists & Character Actors of all ages 18 and above, all genders, to appear in the dramatic audience reactions scenes taking place at a Social Club close to central Manchester over five days of filming, one night shoot 10pm to 1am, the other days either weekdays or weekends.

They are required to play dramatic, interacting audience members for the Comedy Musical Drama set in the early 1960’s. Extras & aspiring actors without any acting experience are also welcome to apply.

Please note; during Bernard Manning’s stand up comedy routine on stage, there will be a few instances of the ‘f’ word, the b**t**d word & the p**s word. The movie is aiming for a 12A certificate. The scenes for filming will involve some stand up comedy, cabaret entertainment & music singing performances. There‘ll be an abundance of action, comedy, costumed impersonations of iconic pop stars like Elvis, The Beatles, David Bowie & Roy Orbison as characters in the movie, special effects, & moving drama within the story.

Extras actors would need to dress in clothing that would fit in with the early 1960’s. Most people will already have some clothes that are similar to early sixties clothing. Gents might like to have fun dressing in conservative, classic suit or jacket, shirt & tie or sweaters, cardigans, cardigan + shirt + tie, hats etc. Gents must all wear a tie. Maybe bring an empty pipe & pretend to smoke it occasionally. Maybe the ladies might like to have their fun dressing up in the style of the early 1960’s with beehive hairstyles or a simple, long, straight hair look & period clothes and makeup.

There should be an opportunity for most, if not all of the extras to appear prominently (with many closeups of faces.) There will be many moments where dramatic & comedy reactions from the audience will appear, and one scene where many of the audience members rush onto the stage and interact with the music performers. We’ll attempt to feature all the extras in at least one scene or shot within the action and story so most, if not all actors will be able to spot themselves in the finished movie.

Please bring a pair of spectacles, if you can borrow, a hat, and a second different top or jacket (and even a wig if you have one) we’ll be using camera and editing techniques to make the audience look even larger in size (hundreds of extras) so you’ll get the chance to be seen twice in the audience scenes as two different people.

[THE MOVIE]
Based on a true story, partly autobiographical, and set in the early 1960s in Manchester, the story centers on a rather unforgettable trip for 54 year old, undiscovered singer songwriter Paul, who ventures into the audience at Bernard Manning’s club to experience an evening’s entertainment of comedy & music.

But what starts off as a night of controversial comedy from Manning, gradually unfolds into a series of bizarre, surreal and unexplainable events involving politically incorrect conduct, chaos, confusion, farce, absurdist incidents and unexpectedly jaw-dropping surprises.

Many puzzling questions inescapably arise, such as ; why are the Beatles, Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and Laurel & Hardy still unknown & without any success in show-business, and why are they all looking for their first big break on the same dingy evening at Bernard Manning’s modest little club in the wrong, deprived part of urban Manchester?

Why are they all 54 years old? And why do they all have an unsettling physical resemblance to Paul? Why is Bernard so verbally brutal and totally ruthless in his confrontations with all these apparently big name, familiar faces?

Is Paul about to get his own big break, taking over on stage when an unknown and disillusioned 54 year old Elvis Presley’s precarious pelvis forces him to prematurely halt his performance in agony and leave the building?

Is Paul about to personally rewrite the shape and history of culture and pop music legend?

Growing Old Gracefully is a comedy drama with a startling difference where weird things are constantly happening and bringing the events of history, the past and the future, especially for some of the biggest names in show-business, into shocking uncertainty.

The film combines elements of Back To The Future, The Wizard of Oz and Wierd Al Yankovic with moments of moving drama interweaving surreal, slapstick and physical comedy. Credits for some of the lead actors already cast include: Captain America: The First Avenger, Harry Potter And The Cursed Child, Sweeney Todd, Avenue Q.

The movie is being shot in both black and white and colour on 4K digital cine cameras. It will be entered for International Film Festivals with a view to acquiring worldwide distribution and features several songs (original and Classic hits), music and special effects.

Because of the production’s Very Low Budget status as an independent British feature film, the Extras and Supporting Artists will be paid a full industry daily rate of £100 that is deferred with a contract but not paid until the movie secures distribution, and then additional bonuses from the movie’s future Gross earnings will be paid.

The contract will contain all the relevant Equity/PACT contractual requirements to ensure all future royalties and fees are paid to both actors and crew. The crew are being hired on the same basis.

The Extras and supporting cast will receive tickets for the cinema screening plus a closing titles credit. There will be refreshments throughout the day on set.

Production Accountants will distribute future payments and all cast and crew will be able to regularly receive and inspect the accounts.

Please make sure your profile page has at least one recent photo of you or send a link to some details about yourself and a photo.

Thank you for your interest in the movie.
