Details:

We will be taking two shows to the Edinburgh Fringe this year and invite applications from dancers who would be interested in dancing in both shows.

Dancers will potentially have to perform in each of the pieces in both shows, and so crucially we are looking for dancers who have the versatility to be able to perform a range of styles to a competent level. However, if a dancer is particularly strong in street style we would still be very interested in seeing them even if they are weak in the styles that will be used less in the shows (such as ballet and contemporary).

PRODIGIOUS

The first show, ‘Prodigious’, is a modern dance only musical featuring the songs of The Prodigy and tells the story of a teenager living through the 1990’s dance scene. Riding the wave of dance culture and all that it entailed, from the clothes and attitudes, to ecstasy and raves. His girlfriend is a reluctant passenger who ends of paying a high price for her ticket. Powerful street dance performances will explore the highs and the lows of the culture.

The Prodigy’s songs range from the dance classics ‘Firestarter’, ‘Breathe’ and ‘Omen’, to the more chilled ‘3 Kilos’ and ‘Mindfields’ and the funky ‘Stand Up’. We are looking for dancers who can perform street, club-style and contemporary pieces for all of these. The aim is to have a style similar to Kenrick Sandy’s ‘Pied Piper’ and crucially, the dancers will need to be able to convey the essential elements of the story. The show will last approximately 45 minutes and will comprise 8 scenes using up to 8 dancers.

COLLISION

A chaos of dance styles from ballet to street, from disco to jive, ‘Collision’ explores what happens when dance styles try to meet in a single song. We aim to prove that you can dance disco to Beethoven’s Fifth and to reveal what would have happened if the Jackson 5 had met Nirvana.

We are looking for dancers who are able to take on the challenge of dancing one style of dance to a different style of music (such as ballet to disco) and of dancing several styles in one song or remix.

GENERAL DETAILS

Both shows will run daily for the full length of the Fringe from 1st to 27th August - so dancers will need to be available during that period. Please do not apply if you will not be available during these dates.

Performances will be in a 170 seat theatre at one of the main venues in Edinburgh.

Rehearsals will initially be weekly on Sundays, with the potential for further sessions prior to heading to the Fringe. Accordingly, please ensure that you would be able to attend weekend rehearsals.

Travel and accommodation costs whilst in Edinburgh will be paid together with a fee. Please note that due to the inevitably limited budget, fees will be £350 per dancer.

If you are interested, please contact us as soon as possible and by 27th March 2012 at the latest. Auditions will be held on Sunday 25th March 2012 and 1st April 2012.
