Hi my name is Agata and I am a student producer working on a graduation short film called ‘’Latito”. We are studying Media Practice (3rd year BA course) at London College of Communication and this project is our final assignment in form of 10-15 min film that will be screen at the graduation show in Prince Charles Cinema in July 2014.
We are looking for a young actor (age 7-8 ) to play the part of Rupert.
The outline of the story:
It’s Christmas time, Council Estate flat. Eight- year-old Rupert lives with his loving parents, when he starts to discover a dark and complicated adult's world behind the closed doors. Feeling increasingly excluded from the unknown activities of his father and mother, the boy tries to escape into his own world shared with his neighbour who introduces him to magic tricks and gives him an old kaleidoscope. The power of child's imagination and fear to face reality brings us to his fragile world built on distant sounds and beautiful visuals.
About Rupert’s character:
Rupert is a timid eight-year-old boy and the protagonist of "Latito", which is set four days around Christmas. He lives in a Council Estate flat in the North of London with his father Daniel and mother Anna.
Rupert is mostly close-mouthed, introverted child and tends to judge people in his head. During Christmas holiday he spends all of his time in the flat and starts to discover confusing feelings towards his parents, which brings in fear and uncertainty into his naive world.
Rupert has a close relationship with his father, who loves the boy and spends his time in the evening playing with the boy. However, Rupert starts to doubt if his father is really the good guy in the house.
The mother tries to treat him well, but always makes Rupert feels uncomfortable and somehow guilty.
Rupert likes to wander with his eyes finding beauty in little things only to distract himself from troubled world behind the closed door.
