CASTING CALL: SWEAT

Fee: £3000 (based on Equity Fringe - inclusive of holiday pay)

SWEAT is a piece of new writing about the LGBTQI+ experience of homelessness, exploring three character’s stories from within the world of sex saunas- a common place for young gay homeless people to seek accommodation. This semi-verbatim play challenges audiences about their definition of homelessness, and questions how asylum seekers ‘prove’ their sexuality to gain citizenship in the UK. This immersive piece transforms the space into a sauna, and gives the audience an in-your-face experience to see what really happens behind closed doors.

Written and Directed by Vicky Moran, who will be running the audition alongside Kate Wasserberg (Artistic Director of Out of Joint).

Dates:
Nov (TBC) - R+D day + read through of first draft with actors
13th Jan - 3rd Feb 2020 - Rehearsals
4/5/6 Feb - Previews/Press @ The Pleasance Theatre, London
7th-29th Feb - Shows @ The Pleasance Theatre, London
4-5th March - Shows @ Lakeside Theatre, Colchester

We are looking for two actors to play the following:

ALF - Male, playing age 20-25. Alf is confident, charming and outgoing. He seemingly loves the party-lifestyle, but also uses it as escapism from his situation.

CHARLIE - Male, playing age 25-30. Charlie is an asylum seeker who is trying to gain citizenship in the UK. He is cynical yet very charismatic and funny. His background is to be discovered and determined depending on casting.

Essential for both:

- Must identify as LGBTQI+
- Male-identifying/masc presenting
- Professional training/ professional acting credits
- Must feel comfortable being topless

Desirable:

- Experience of homelessness in any of its multiple forms (including living in a hostel or other temporary accommodation, sofa-surfing, street homelessness, refugeedom etc)
- Dance/movement ability

We will prioritise all actors with experience of homelessness as well as those who identity as BAME

Auditions will be held on the 14th October 2019 from 9am at:

Out of Joint, 3 Thane Works, Thane Villas, London N7 7NU
Nearest tube: Finsbury Park (Victoria & Piccadilly lines) or Holloway Road (Piccadilly line)

If you are thinking of auditioning but are not sure of something, please get in touch and we can have a chat. If you have any access requirements for the audition please let us know. There will be gender neutral toilets and the audition space and building is LGBTQIA+ friendly.

To express your interest, please email Vicky at sweattheplayuk@gmail.com with a link to your Spotlight, Mandy or other CV/portfolio as well as outlining how you fit the criteria.
