Casting Call – ‘Light’
We are a final year, final semester, production crew from York St John University called Winter Wind Films. We are making a concept pilot for a thriller drama series for our final marked project. This pilot will also stand alone as a short film for use in actors portfolios and in short film festivals. This is our final project before we graduate, we all have first class productions in our past but have come together to make one final spectacular project. We are looking for a Male lead, a Female lead, and a supporting Female Actor.
This series is based in 2014 but in a world which pollution has taken over our atmosphere. The world is covered in thick, dense smog and therefore not allowing natural sunlight to break through. As a result, artificial electromagnetic radiation was created by the wealthy for the wealthy to perform the tasks natural sunlight would do, for example growing fruit and vegetables. But this artificial light becomes expensive and the working class cannot afford this luxury. Therefore there is a massive class difference and issues within this world.
The pilot begins with an eccentric advert for artificial electromagnetic radiation (Light) and in front of the television playing this advert is a rough tired looking pair of hands wiring some sort of small device in a dark and grim room. The story then moves to another location in which the same advert is playing but now in a light warm large flat with a young couple. Nolan and Jessica. They discuss how they are going to afford the freshly grown food that Jessica wants due to it becoming too expensive in this reality. Nolan as a caring, supportive partner leaves the flat to go fetch her what she wants. While just outside the door, he gets a call that there has been an incident and he is the closet and first paramedic to respond. Nolan travels to location to find a only a note, that reads an address, 31 Halliwell House, his apartment.
As Nolan races back to his home, the same pair of tired rough looking hands are shown to be picking the lock to his front door. Jessica readies herself for an artificial light session as these hands gain access. As Jessica lays down, there seems to be some malfunction with her light chamber and her life is taken. The audience are shown that outside her artificial light chamber the device from the beginning of the pilot is shown attached to the wall. Nolan arrives too late to save her.

The Characters
Nolan Banks is an attractive, charming and caring person. The ideal leading man in a television series. He cares deeply about Jessica and their unborn child and would do anything to protect them. He prioritises other people’s safety before his own.
Actor needs to be enthusiastic and easy to work with.
Jessica Ford is a young beautiful girlfriend to Nolan. She is however slightly spoilt and living off her father's money. She and Nolan share a flat but her father's money is up keeping it. She is conflicted between her romantic feelings for Nolan and her dedication to her father who raised her.
Actor needs to be enthusiastic, easy to work with and willing to commit to dramatic takes.
