Details:

We are a final year film production group from Queen Mary, University of London.
As part of our Creative Production course module, we are looking for THREE male and THREE female actors for our short film Retirement that focuses on the relationship between a grandfather and a granddaughter. We will be shooting an emotional and bittersweet comedy that denies the typical stereotypes of retirement house and the lifestyle people preconceive of it.

Auditions will be held at 21st and 22nd October, by appointment only. To schedule an audition, please send a current and relevant CV and accompanying picture to retirementcasting2013@gmail.com
Rehearsals and filming will take place between 8th – 11th November.
Our budget is low, but we will cover both travel and catering costs.
For auditions, a rehearsed piece from the script is preferred.
The screenplay will be provided during auditions. Also, it will be send by email before auditions to the applicants.

Film Synopsis:
The main character – Frank – is a resident in a retirement house. He is perfectly happy there but he has no connections with his daughter and her family. One day, unexpectedly, his granddaughter Alice visits him. During her short visit, Frank introduces her to his lively and funny friends and their surprisingly eventful life full of escape plans and friendly communication. The day together changes both of them– it helps Alice to understand her mother and relate to her grandfather plus it encourages Frank to make a first step and to reunite with his estranged daughter.
Breakdowns:
1. Frank
A resident in a retirement house. The main character in the film. He is playful, likeable and light-hearted man. Can be sensitive and sentimental about his family. Playing age: 55-70

2. Alice
A granddaughter. Alice is a typical teenager - annoyed and rebellious. She changes through the film – becomes funnier and happier and more understanding. Playing age: 15-18

3. Adam
A resident in a retirement house. Frank’s friend, always creating escape plans and failing. Playful and very optimistic. Playing age: 60-70

4. Carl
Another retirement house resident. He is terminally ill but capable of joking about his illness. Good sense of humour. Playing age: 60-70

5. Beatrice
A seductive resident of a retirement house. Playing age: 60-70

6. Laura
A nurse in a retirement house. She is caring and supportive woman who takes care of all the residents. Playing age: 25-40
