Thomasina Live Script Read is a Kickstarter funded live event hosted at The RADA Club Theatre, 16 Chenies Street London, WC1E 7EX.

Kickstarter funding will cover talent hire, venue, marketing and production administration costs. I want to get the cast in place before starting the Kickstarter campaign. Rehearsal and performance to take place on the same day.

Thomasina Synopsis
Thomasina, a short live action Neo-Western, draws on the mythology of the American West, or more precisely the Hollywood myth of the American West, in depicting the life of a Louisiana whorehouse and a nomadic gunfighter, Schmidt, in a lawless society, Bugtussle, where notions of good and evil exist as a reductive dichotomy. Thomasina is an analysis of genre using the American Western as a case study and the technical means to bring it about. The Great Train Robbery, Edwin S. Porter’s 1903 Western, is the earliest example of narrative usage in motion picture photography. The Western genre would prove popular with film audiences for much of the history of commercial film-making, thus making the Western an ideal candidate for an analysis of film genre, and the production methods that make it possible.

Thomasina is a monograph in series, each volume having a discrete textual treatment: cinematography, mise-en-scène, sound, editing, performance and technology. This process allows for a more rigorous investigation, affording the reader an opportunity, by way of comparative analysis, to address Thomasina’s central thesis: a critical evaluation of genre and its technical requirements, than would be possible with a single urtext.
