Details:

CHARACTER: Private Detective. Modern day. You work for a discreet detective agency that is called upon by governments, companies and individuals to solve cases that are either too difficult for conventional methods, or require the utmost secrecy. You are confident, authoritative and articulate, but have a sense of humour and can interact with people (i.e. the audience) on a relaxed level. COSTUME: You wear smart clothes, slightly old fashioned. We provide: a trilby hat. We expect you to provide: a smart set of clothes, ideally with a waistcoast (especially for male actors), and trenchcoat (though these specific items are not essential).

SETTING: Immersive / Interactive / Outdoor / Edinburgh Fringe. We are looking for actors for our upcoming immersive, detective/spy-themed, outdoor escape games, which are being run at the Edinburgh Fringe from August 6th-30th inclusive. There will also be training and test runs before then.

ROLE: Actors will be required to individually host a small group of participants, immersing them in an amazing, fictional world. We are looking for someone who can complete the customers’ immersion in these games by playing a larger than life character. As the story unfolds and players discover props and clues, you will give them hints and advice. You will need strong stage management abilities as you will have to set up some props and scenery for the group prior to their arrival and reset props for the next performance.

We use several locations and numerous small puzzle props, so an eye for detail is essential, as well as the ability to improvise and problem solve to keep the experience flowing smoothly when challenges arise. We need actors who are confident delivering important information (briefing scripts will be provided for each mission) but also equally comfortable improvising in character to aid the players as they try to solve the puzzles whilst staying in the "world" of Agent November at all times.

EXPERIENCE: Our missions are a lot of fun to run and play (we've won multiple awards and Trip Advisor Certificates of Excellence) but present unique challenges in terms of puzzle clueing, quick game resets and player management. You will be required to work independently for most of the performances you run. Training will be provided and you will be drawing on the 7 years of experience that we have in running these games.

If you think you've got what it takes to join the agency and guide our new recruits through their missions, we'd love to hear from you!

PERFORMANCES: We will be running 2 missions: "Major X Ploe-Shun", where players must defuse an EMP device before time runs expires and important records are destroyed! and "Robyn Yew", a part treasure hunt/part escape room where players travel from location to location, solving puzzles as they go, to retrieve priceless artefacts stolen by our enemies!). We will run performances on every day of the Fringe, and will run different types of mission (i.e. Major X Ploe-Shun or Robyn Yew) on alternate days (in order to encourage customers to return for the other performance the next day). Each game will be run 4 times per day, at 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm. If any games are unsold, the actor would then be required to flyer etc to help generate more sales, or work on some other aspect of supporting the show. Pay rate is hourly and will be paid regardless of the number of missions booked that day. You will be working as a self employed contractor.

ACTOR DEMOGRAPHICS: We are interested in hearing from actors who already have a base near Edinburgh OR who will be travelling up to the fringe anyway and would love to earn some extra cash! We welcome applications from all genders, ethnicities and nationalities - however, a very high level of English is required. There is physical lifting and handling of props involved. The performances will take place outdoors and will require walking between outdoor locations (carrying props) in Edinburgh.

FUTURE OPPORTUNITIES: If things go well we are considering running games in Edinburgh after the Fringe. If you are a good fit for the role we may be interested in asking you to return to help run these games (or our London games), but naturally this cannot be guaranteed at this stage.
