Details:

"ToyBox" is a short film I am writing/directing for my graduation project for my final year at university studying film production and cinematography.

It's a short film about a young boy who escapes reality in his attic by reading his favourite storybook. We live out his vision of the book in this fantasy woodland setting - where he travels with his sidekick, a white rabbit and his encounters other animals in the woods. Where the boy and rabbit are on a quest to save the princess.

It will be shot the week of 16/04/2012 over the course of four days (tuesday-friday). Unfortunately I am having to fund this film completely myself so the positions are unpaid however expenses will be paid for both actors if traveling far into Salisbury.

It will be filmed in Salisbury in three different locations, the majority taking place in the woods.

The cast of the film will be four main actors and additional extras all in costume which i'll be supplying. The crew will be five people all from my course. This advert is for the "brown bear" character with alot of screen time and dialogue parts.

I will send out scripts/treatments to people that apply that look like the fit the part. Also would like to meet with people before hand to discuss the part/get to know each other.

Any questions please ask.

Thanks and I appreciate any interest.

Saunders.

Here is a more detailed synopsis of the film:

ToyBox Synopsis

Tagline:
“A young boy uses his imagination to live out his favourite storybook to escape reality.”

Film opens to large beautiful woods, sunrays shine through branches casting golden light all around. As the sun slowly stars to fall the skies turn darker and the lanterns streaming throughout the trees start to glow. A young boy and a rabbit walk through the woods, both with wooden swords and shields along with backups full of tools and equipment. They pass through a small settlement with people and animals walking around, finishing their days, and packing up their shops and so forth. These two are adventurers.

Unfortunately they are lost and trying to make sense of which way to go using a map as a guide. Bickering back and forth they realize they’re getting nowhere and decide to ask the next person they come across for directions. They notice a large bear sleeping back against a tree they head across to his direction. They try waking him to ask for help but he’s fast asleep, they tap his foot and he wakes up suddenly. The two take a slight step back in hesitation but he wakes up mumbling to himself and seems quite pleasant. When he notices the pair they explain their predicament and hand over the map. The bear takes a look and discovers the error in their travel, so he kindly points them in the correct direction.

The two set out again, now walking the correct way. They are both happy and take a moment to have a snack when they hear a loud scream coming from deep within the woods.

Dropping their food to the ground they run in the direction where they find a princess tied to a large tree, her guard rabbits lay unconscious on the ground while being guarded by three mean black bears – one being the leader. Hiding inside the bushes they watch and wait for the opportunity to strike. With hands on swords they leap from the bushes. The young boy shouts to the bear to release the princess while drawing his sword, but the bear sends his two guards to fight them. They clash in battle, with the boy and rabbit defeating the bears. Furious the big black bear charges violently for the young boy. Suddenly a theres a loud scream and we snap out of the story. It slowly fades back in and shows the young boy in his attic laying on the floor reading the book surrounded by toys. Alone in the background you can hear arguing, it’s revealed that his parents are both arguing in the kitchen, somewhat aggressively. There are obviously problems with the family and the father becomes physical towards the mother. We see the boy again lying staring into space where we see the open page of the book that shows the princess saved by the young boy.

The story is essentially about a young boy that uses his attic and favourite storybook as an escape from reality, revealed at the end being his breaking family and harsh Father. So inside his vision of the storybook he is this hero that is on a mission to save the princess (his Mother) although never succeeds.
