About the show:

The absolute perfect way to spend your Valentine’s Day with that loved one. A modern twist on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice, this hilarious new musical will have you smiling in your seat. A young, uptight greeting card writer’s life is changed when he meets a flighty photographer. Along with their eccentric friends and siblings, they learn to love each other not in spite of their faults, but because of them.

Written by Joshua Salzman and Ryan Cunningham, this show is the pair’s thesis musical in New York University’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and went on to open off- Broadway in 2006 to wide critical acclaim and earned its writers a Drama Desk nomination. It has since been produced all over the world.

IMPORTANT: The show will be performed at the Unity Theatre from 12th to 15th February 2013. Rehearsals will take place on evenings and weekends over a three month period so auditionees must be based in Liverpool or within a commutable distance of the city.

We are looking to cast the following roles:

Austin Bennet (25; tenor to A): greeting card writer.
Jeff Bennet (28; baritone to G): pedi-cab driver.
Marcy Fitzwilliams (24; soprano, strong mix to F, belt to D): photographer.
Diana Bingley (27; alto to D): actuary.
NYC Woman (Various roles, soprano)
NYC Man (Various roles, bari-tenor)

This is a real ensemble show with no small roles, and no roles have been pre-cast.


For your audition:

Please prepare one musical theatre song that shows off your vocal range and is appropriate to the part you wish to be considered for. A pianist will be there to accompany you, but you need to bring your own sheet music in the correct key.

Recalls will take place in the afternoon of the same day (Saturday 10th). More information about this is available on the audition pack.

About the producer:

Lights Up Entertainment is a Liverpool-based entertainment company focusing on theatre production and artist management. Our young team consists of young, passionate people from all around the world, full of creative ideas about theatre and music production, and always looking to experiment and try out new things.

The production team for "I Love You Because" consists of students from the Liverpool Institute from Performing Arts. However, we are looking to cast the show with performers from outside our school, and would like to collaborate with several different theatre groups from around Merseyside.

It doesn't matter how experienced you are, everyone is welcome to audition!
