Details:

The Chapati Flower is a short graduation film depicting the life and struggles of Saashi as she returns to education after a lifetime of taking care of her family. Saashi makes the brave steps to try to achieve her science GCSE. When 60-year-old Saashi gets accepted into an adult learning course, her goal gets thrown into the distance when her cancer diagnoses threatens to take her second chance at education. This short film battles powerful themes of; education, feminism, equality and acceptance, reflecting the parallels of life in modern Britain and 1970's London for this extraordinary Indian woman. Based on the real-life story of Director Daya Taak's Grandmother, Director of Photography Luke O'Sullivan will bring to life the vibrancy of a 1970's British Asian family in this dramatic screenplay.

Daljeet and Jasneem, 2 women, playing age 48-78, ethnicity Indian
Saashi’s sisters who have a very different opinion on her return got education at her age. Neither sister relates to Saashi still wanting this and are more preoccupied gossiping about when their neighbours children will get married than supporting Saashi’s goals, however they both still love her and believe their concerns come from a good place, like their mother said, focus on family not GCSE’s.
Fun - family-orientated - gossipers
