Details:

Hans is a film about a tree hugger who ultimately has to sacrifice his love of trees for the love of his family.
While the film is set in Scotland (just outside Falkirk, for no particular reason) Hans himself is from Europe – a fact that helps to reinforce his outsider status and add a little cultural curiosity to the pursuit of tree-hugging. He could be Bavarian, Austrian, Polish or Russian – the precise nationality does not matter but the accent is totally critical. We don’t want the central performance to lapse into Hello! Hello! or some uncomfortable stereotyping – the authenticity of the character is paramount. The actor delivers his lines in his own heavily accented English.
In terms of physical stature he should be like a younger Stellan Skarsgard – imposing but not threatening. He is perhaps a little out of shape, but content to live a frugal life. Our actor needs the subtlety and comic timing of Christoph Waltz and the clumsiness, gullibility and quiet ferocity of Tormund, the chief of the Wildlings in Game of Thrones.
He is personable, expressive and engaging.
