Details:

Bournemouth University short film project (MA-BA collaboration) "Game" directed by Dan Iliuta, seeking Actors for its secondary roles.

Plot: One spring evening, after having gone trophy hunting for the day, a man witnesses the probability of a murder in a small hotel he checks in.

Description: Crime-thriller short film challenging genre and narrative-related conventions, “Game” focuses on an action-packed, short time spanning narrative, with an open ending posing a moral dilemma; one pertaining to the intersections of hunting and murder, and the predator-prey conflict.

Reminiscent films of the intended style and narrative include No Country for Old Men (2007), The Hunt (2012), or The Lobster (2015).

The shoot will take place April 24th-28th tentatively in and around Dorset.

Rehearsals will take place on two-three weekends in March-April (flexible dates) in London.

The casting call will be taking place on Saturday, March 8th and Sunday, March 9th in London.

Current crew members are experienced students with many short films produced and successful in international film festivals, wishing to take their work at the next level.

The film will be 10-15 minutes long, and submitted to major and mid-size film festivals around the world starting this upcoming summer. Applying actors will be sent the script sides over e-mail upon selection, as well as communicated the time and place of the auditions, over e-mail or phone.

Roles:

Jim (Main: Male, aged 45-60, White/Caucasian) - Self-assured, unyielding and composed. Coping with solitude, Jim finds refuge in his long-time hobby of trophy hunting, whilst keeping the satisfaction to himself as intuition prompts him to. When faced with the imminent necessity of shooting a living being to protect another, his previously-clear ethical code is put to test.

B-category driver’s permit required.
Handling a firearm or having basic knowledge about one is a major plus.

Terry (Supporting: Male, aged 25-45, Any ethnicity) - Friendly, yet grave when stepped on his nerves. Tender, but capable of any act of violence. A camouflaged psychopath. With his genial appearance, Terry is the unexpected murderer few would recognise as evil. He can’t help but strangle Samantha, ultimately killing her amid a fierce act of jealousy. His afflicted sense of self shows best as he doesn’t give a damn if he gets heard, and will, in turn, smile in death’s face.

Samantha (Supporting: Female, aged 25-45, Any ethnicity) - Terry’s wife and unfortunate victim. During an argument with him gone wrong, she gets strangled and killed, triggering the protagonist’s both inner and outer conflict.

** Extensive dialogue. Character will not appear physically on camera for the longest part. Appearance as a dead body at the end.

Finn (Supporting: Male, aged 30-45, Any ethnicity) - An unfortunate bystander. A loving son. Someone persistent, ready to take action and put his civic sense to work. Or save his mother. Or both. Garrulous, but self-confident. On the night of the murder, as a fellow guest in the hotel and sharing the room with his mom, Finn takes action all too late, but compensates through his buoyancy. He wants to save the day, and it shows.

Tina (Supporting: Female, aged 60+, Any ethnicity) - Stubborn, saggy, but good-hearted. Finn’s mother, she finds herself checked in the motel at the time the murder takes place. She shows an acute lucidity, and a sensitive, self-aware nature. Though she faints when hearing the rifle shot, she does not stop fighting her frailty, showing will to stay present during the horrific incident.

George (Supporting: Male, aged 40-60, White/Caucasian) - The bon vivant. The classical, conservative trainer. George acts as hunt manager for a local hunting company, and takes people on tours. He loves sharing his knowledge and passion for the gratifying “union with nature.” He’s well-spoken, well-versed and charismatic. As an outgoing type who wants himself adapted for modern times, but won’t give up the boar head on his wall, he regards himself as a kind of eccentric athlete, masculine and supportive.

Handling a firearm or having basic knowledge about one is a plus.

Josh (Supporting: 18 - 30, Any ethnicity) - As a novice, Josh is eager to learn all that must be learned about deer hunting from his older colleagues. While on the hunting trip, he proves outgoing, friendly, and sometimes takes a step too close to impertinence, all with a good cause.

Handling a firearm or having basic knowledge about one is a plus.
