Details:

BALSA WOOD (working title) - a light hearted story about a filipino/mixed race family to shoot over 2 days in London and Essex in November.

It is a great script - and one that deals with a subject matter and ethnic minority very rarely depicted in film.

AUDITIONS in CENTRAL LONDON on Tuesday 22nd October from 6pm
If you are unable to make it to an audition at that time, please get in touch with us - we can either rearrange or you can send a self-tape.

5 filipino / half filipino actors for a light hearted short film exploring what it means to be part of two very different cultures at once. The audience will see a slice of family life as we follow SCOTTY (23/4), her younger brother TED (19), and their Auntie BEBING (60s), on their visit to family friend LORNA (30s/40s) and her daughter MARICEL (5-7).

If you are not filipino but feel like you look similar enough, please do still apply.

CHARACTER DESCRIPTIONS

BEBING: full filipina, playing age late 50s/60s. Bebing has lived in the UK for many years, and is well integrated into life in Britain, but she still has a very strong filipino accent. She is colourful, slightly eccentric, and doesn't really understand her nephew and niece - they are somehow different to her. But she is kind at heart. One of her scenes involves driving a car (very briefly), so the actor must have a driving licence.

TED: Half filipino boy of 19. Dark hair and features, lanky and tall. Though he bickers with his older sister Scotty, he is good natured and the siblings have a good rapport.

SCOTTY: Half filipina girl in her early 20s. Older sister to Ted. Dark hair and features, also slightly lanky like her brother. She is sensitive, and can be somewhat moody at times. She doesn't fit into the very filipino world of her Aunt and family friends, and isn't that willing to try to understand or be part of it.

LORNA: Full filipina, 30s/40s. Lorna is the family friend of Scotty, Ted and Bebing. She is married to a western man (who doesn't appear in the film), and has only been living in the UK for a few years. She has one full filipino daughter (aged 7) from a previous marriage/relationship.She is attractive and slightly sassy, and is very much in touch with filipino culture - that is her world.

MARICEL: young filipino girl of 5 to 7 years, daughter of Lorna. She is very shy, and doesn't speak much English, but is a sweet, curious little girl.
