After a vicious fight with her family, Frost must choose between continuing life under its oppressive rules or leaving home to sweet freedom, but at a cost, her little sister.

“BITTERSWEET” is a story about Frost, a 23 year old young, free spirited woman who leaves home because her family puts pressure on her to be someone she’s not and live a life she doesn’t agree with.

Due to ongoing pressures in her life, Frost snaps one day and gets into a vicious fight with her family, which causes a lot of hurt, especially to her mum. Frost is frustrated with her family, their backward traditions and the constraints they place on her. She tries to fix things with her mum once the anger has subsided but her mum’s only solution, to sort out the mess that she caused, is to be locked up in the house. Imprisonment. It almost feels like being told to have a frontal lobotomy. This solution will break her.

The film centers on the internal conflict within Frost of staying or leaving home. Reflecting back on the fight, she thinks about whether this is a decision she can live with. What she could gain from leaving home and what she could lose from leaving home. Freedom, or never seeing her little sister again. Once making this decision, there is no turning back, ties will be broken between her and her family and her little sister is a part of that. It’s a very tough and life-changing decision Frost has to make.

This story is quite personal and reflects the struggles a lot of women face when they are brought up from backgrounds that don’t suit them. There are endless stories of women who are abused and killed because they don’t want to follow a certain way of life placed on them by their family or community. It requires a lot of strength, courage and bravery to get up and leave a family, especially when they have programmed it in your head your whole life that you can’t be who you are and you have to live their way and leaving is not an option. I’m hoping that with this film, people who watch it from similar circumstances will feel inspired or motivated, or it will give them some strength to take charge of their life and ease their pain and struggle. I hope that maybe it might change someone’s life or educate people who are not aware of this lifestyle.

This is my graduate film so it is an unpaid role but food and travel will be provided. You will receive a copy of the film for your show reel. I have already received a lot of positive feedback for the story and character development and script.

PLEASE NOTE: This story involves some intense acting because it's a very powerful and emotionally driven film. It is still in development and although this is the basis of the story, some details will change. This will be discussed with the applicants. PLEASE DON'T HESITATE TO ASK ANY QUESTIONS!!!

ROLES:

FATHER

The father is the ultimate alpha male in this film. He is a very proud man who lives a certain way of life and imposes it on his family. Because of his harsh close minded outlook and discipline, the relationship between him and his daughter (Frost) and his wife is negative/non-existant.

PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Dark featured or Grey hair

ETHNICITY: White/Caucasian, Mixed

IDEAL TRAITS: Stage combat skills ideal or the ability to fight without harming the actress. A scene requires him to physically fight with his daughter.

MOTHER

The mother is a suppressed character with deep internal wounds who works to please her family even if it goes against her happiness. Her relationship with her daughter (Frost) is very intense. She is a very crucial character in the film and an older version of Frost who hasn't acted on her desires or happiness. Her motives behind taking away Frost's freedom stem from the fact that she's jealous and unhappy with her life.
