Details:

Are you interested in the cross-over between performance, art and new technologies? Are you interested in the performing arts? You are an actor but the traditional scene is just too restrictive for you? Or do you want to gain experience in the delivery of arts events, interacting with the public and meeting other creatives? Or do you just want to be part of a fun art event?

What changes faster: you or the city? Play the game!
An interactive adventure throughout the seafront at Roker, Sunderland. Mobile phones, QR codes, online social networks, films and fast reactions help teams of players solve puzzles and push them to ask their own questions. Speed of reaction (S.O.R.) is an event for which we are looking for a group of ‘helpers’ to aid the mystery of the project’s narrative. You will be stationed at various exterior locations throughout Roker seafront (such as the Pier, A Marine Actvities Centre and Smuggler Pub for one Sunday afternoon where you will perform as a S.O.R. Helper. Part of your role will involve following a strict set of instructions and noting information as you need to help the event participants (and the project organisers) move the game forward. For those of you interested in performance, you can incarnate a character in a team of allies that will be key in the resurrection of the pirate Spottee and the comeback of the Long Lost Pirate Kingdom. The Capitaine Spottee character will apprear throughout the game ( featuring in videos and on mobile phones which you will be stationed at) and you will be one of his allies/assistants/helpers. You will be the gate keeper and holder of keys, you will help teams of players find the clues and solve the puzzles. Capitaine Spottee needs you! aaaaAARRRR!!!!”

This is a great opportunity to be involved in a small-scale yet professional and innovative project. S.O.R. is an independently produced work that already ran successfully in east London streets in Spring 2010 supported by Arts Council UK and will run in August 2012 commissioned by rednile projects and Sunderland City Council as part of rednile’s Factory Nights programme. The particpants of the game will be made up of local youth groups who will play for the first couple of hours of the afternoon and then later in the afternoon the general public can play (they have to book a place prior to the event).

KEY DATES You will need to be available for a couple of key dates in August 2012.

An Initial meeting & briefing at Roker Seafront for a couple of hours week commencing 6th August (date and time tbc)
The Event will take place on Sunday 12th August 10am-6pm

S.O.R. ROKER: HELPER You are part of a project that is secret and mysterious. You’re efficient and helpful. Hence the name. You may need to interact with the general public. Age, race, gender – we’re not picky. Given our modest budget, we can only cover travel costs (from inside North East region) and food – there is no fee. HOWEVER there will be a complimentary drink provided for you at the SOR After Party! You will also get a copy of a limited edition DVD which will be a film of the event. As a valued volunteer you will also get a free CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check, normally costing around £40. A CRB check is needed for anyone working with young or vulnerable people delivering workshops etc. Above all of this – ENJOYMENT IS GUARANTEED!
