Double your friends or double your enemies? This is a gang culture short film focusing around protagonist Jamie's introduction into gang life. Although he appears naïve he has an intelligent streak which triumphs over even the most experienced gang members, giving the film an unusual twist. There is suspense throughout, as we discover whether Jamie ends up in the firing line.

Description Age: Mid 20’s
Gender: Female
Physical Description: Attractive, smartly dressed and tidy.

Hannah is a strong feisty character; she is intelligent and takes no rubbish from any of the other gang members and has no problems telling anyone what she thinks, however is not violent at all. Her personality is that of a strong femme fatal type character, a woman who slightly intimidates the rest of the gang. She has good time keeping and likes to create and stick to plans. She is very organised and doesn’t feel intimidated by anyone.

Jamie
Age: Early 20’s.
Gender: Male
Physical description: Small build, very tidy looking. There is an obvious difference to him and the rest of the characters.

Jamie is a calm docile character, he is new to this gang culture and is still acclimatising, he doesn’t really know what to expect. He is our main character in this short film and the narrative is focusing around his introduction to the life of a gang member. He doesn’t quite fit the stereotypical gang member but this isn’t because he isn’t interested in this culture, all he wants is to be involved. He is still confused at times, he is eager to learn but occasionally maybe his naivety gets in the way of things.

Brain

Gender: Male
Physical description: Big build, untidy looking, 5”9

Brain is the oldest member of the gang and sees himself as the leader and the ‘brains’. The rest of his gang members look up to him for support and advice. He is intelligent, kind hearted and does care about his gang but likes to keep a tough front to keep his authority as the boss. He enjoys being intimidating and is quite aware to how he makes the other members feel. He works very closely with Hannah and feels that she is the only member he cannot talk down to, he feels slightly intimidated by her strong character.

Lee
Age: Early 20’s
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Untidy looking, small build, weak.

Lee does the dirty work. He is Gaz’s right hand man. He is a jokey character who likes to mess around and not take things too seriously. He likes to push his luck with Hannah and Brain, the boss, but will always be put in his place. As Jamie has joined the gang, Lee has started getting a bit too big for his boots; he is not the new one anymore so feels more comfortable with his gang members. However, previously being the ‘new boy’ he is still uneasy with certain aspects of the job. Tends to back away from violence.

Gaz
Age: Mid 20’s
Gender: Male
Physical Description: Athletic build, strong, untidy looking, rough cut.

Gaz has been a member of the gang culture for a few years and has got to know the ins and outs of the job. He works closely with Lee, they are seen as partners who do the dirty jobs for Brain their boss. But when it comes to their boss Gaz is more respected than Lee, he always has a one up on him. He does get afraid sometimes but tends to hide this well and put on a tough front. He likes to think of himself as Jamie’s supervisor like his mentor. He likes to think that he is starting to have some authority.

Jesse

Gender: Male
Physical Description: Medium build, Strong, Rough looking.

Jesse is a fearless character, an experienced gang member. He works closely with Tommy but feels that he should really be boss. He thinks a lot of himself. He is intelligent and extremely intimidating; and is not frightened or un-eased by anybody else. He enjoys violence and has no guilty conscience. He is a natural leader.

Tommy

Physical Description: Medium build, tidier looking than the rest of his gang members.

Tommy is Jesse’s right hand man, he feels that Jesse is his leader and will follow his every word. He’s not as confident as Jesse but gains his confidence from him. He likes to act tough and has no problem with violence. He’s not really intelligent and is more brawn than brains.

Tanya
Age: early 20’s
Gender: Female
Physical Description: dark haired, mean looking character.

Tanya is a mean spirited character. She is intelligent and suspicious of others. She sees no one as a threat and feels she is in charge of the men in the group; she is a very powerful character. She strikes fear into anyone involved with her in conflict and she has no problem being spiteful and aggressive, she enjoys it. Tanya would never be caught doing the dirty work, anyone would be too afraid to ask her to do it.

When and Where

Audition date will be the 31st October 4pm-6pm at the actors centre in London, Filming dates are yet to be decided (roughly the months of November - January) but final dates will be passed onto the actors if they are successful with the audition. Filming locations will be in and around Surrey & Hampshire.

What the cast/crew will receive
Unpaid as it's a student film but cast will recieve a copy of the completed film for them to use as they wish such as use on show reels and CV's. Crew may be able to pick actors up depending on where they live/current location is.
