Details:
'Ice-Cream Dreams' is a story about the reality of following a dream, only to discover it to not be as imagined. It is a story about lonliness, and how just the smallest gesture or moment of clarity can change your perception on life, or at least help you to pick yourself up. It is a dramatic piece, with elements of black comedy.
Ice-Cream Man is depressed with how his life has turned out, but can never bring himself to do anything about it. He lives alone, with only his pet goldfish Tuco as a friend.
All his young life he wanted to be an ice-cream man, looking up to them as bringers of happiness and joy. Yet he soon realised that he was not only unfit for the job, but it didn't give him the satisfaction he thought he would get.
We want Ice-Cream Man to be a loveble loser, and to be originaly seen as an undesirable character, but gradualy invite the audience to feel for him.
We also have written the dialogue to give the actor freedom with the speech. We would like the script to be used as a strong guidline, but for the actor to immerse himself in the role and contribute to the monologues.
We are not looking for particular physical characteristics, however early to late 30's is what we are looking for age wise.
'Ice-Cream Dreams' (ICD) begins with Ice-Cream Man (ICM) passionlessly serving ice-cream to kids, before slumping into his driving seat to enjoy a beer and cigarette. After work he returns home to his messy caravan, and spends the evening reciting his extensive inner monologue to his pet goldfish (Tuco), drinking beer, smoking cigarettes and watching television, before repeating his daily cycle again. After once again returning from work, he begins to speak about his potential suicide attempts, entering his spare bedroom to reveal his walls covered in surreal ways of ending his life. Later that evening after pouring his heart out to Tuco, he drunkenly passes out, falling forward and knocking Tuco's bowl over on the floor. ICM awakes the next morning to discover what he has done, causing him great grief and after angrily lashing out in his home, he calms down and gives Tuco a send off before flushing him down the toilet. He gets into his ice-cream van for work, but as he gets to his plot, he contemplates ending his life more than ever. However an old friend fortunately knocks at his window, in a chance encounter, and pays a genuine interest in him and suggests extended interaction and a meet up. This sparks a new enthusiasm for life, as he finally leaves the ice-cream van to see the world in a new light. He had his gun in possession as he had planned to kill himself, and he throws it into the sea, however the gun accidently discharges and ICM is ironically shot in the stomach.
Auditions will be held from the 5th of April to the 7th. We are shooting from the 18th to the 22nd of April, and will require the lead actor to stay with us on location in bournemouth, or be close enough to be able to commute. (expenses paid)
