'Lawnchair Larry'

Based on the story of Larry Walters and his Balloon Flight. My script has it's adaptations to which Larry is an unemployed dependent adult. If you read up about Larry you'll find that he had wished to fly through his entire life.

In 'Lawnchair Larry' his parents are pushing him to get a job but his poor eyesight means that he can never be a pilot. So he sets off on making his own aircraft dubbed 'Inspiration', using 45 helium weather balloons and a lawnchair. The character Ben, a close old school friend of Larry's is a paperboy with a fear of dogs. He leads the humorous and relieving B story.

My biggest production yet, it's my graduate piece and so intentions are for it to run the festival circuit. It meets the conventional structure beats and the script provides enough freedom for the characters to delve into their roles with flexible creativity. It is ofcourse as original as a film based loosely on true events can be. We will be shooting green screen with Larry for one of the four shooting days. Another one of the days will be just crew obtaining aerial shots in a private plane. The other two will be purely on location and character based. We are shooting on digital as the green screen suggests. The short is intended to be between 8-12 minutes long.

Individually funded I intend to cover expenses + £50-£100 incentive for major roles. These include, LARRY, LARRY'S MOTHER , LARRY'S FATHER, BEN CAROL, THE HEADMASTER. We also require the use of a dog.

Auditions will be held over Christmas in the Salisbury area, England, UK, for Larry's and Ben's roles. Other roles will be pursued with great care.

I am a perfectionist and am looking for charismatic, imaginative and fluent performers. Luckily I've been fortunate enough to partially hand-pick members of my crew from our 3rd year group. I have been shooting films for over 4 years, two of which are at degree level. Character Breakdown:

Title: Larry Walters
Description: MALE, Playing age of mid-twenties. Approx 6ft, of Caucasian/White background. TBC on Californian Accent. Thick glasses (not required). Moustache preferable.

Quirky, extreme, motivated, childlike. He is an irrational, dependent 20-something with only one concern, to fly. He has a strong influence on Ben and brings him on board for his project. He starts with a lack of respect for his parents, stealing their credit card to fund his project. This respect along with his individuality grows over his journey throughout the film. His drive is angled into different directions soon after he fulfils his lifelong dream.

Description: MALE, 20-something, below 6 ft, yet larger than Larry. Comic, friendly, conscientious character. Round, fair face also of Caucasian/White background. TBC on Californian accent.

The paperboy with a fear of dogs who is easily swayed, arguably controlled by Larry, he is in a fight to overcome his fear of dogs throughout the narrative. Almost a separate narrative, intended to provide relief from story A, the journey Ben goes through with Larry also helps him become more individual.
