Addiction is a hard hitting short film with a twist.
It shows the simple yet confusing life of a teenage girl called Kelly and her daily struggles with her mother who abuses the use of alcohol. Kelly lives alone with her mother for as long as she can remember. She has no recollection of her father except for a few pictures if him around her house when she was a baby. According to what shes been told, her father She is a 17 ear old girl who is constantly trying to maintain a good relationship with her mother but finds in extremely had especially when she is and has been drinking.

Character Description

Girl- a simple girl who lives at home with her mother. She is an only child but has no recollection of her father. Throughout her house there are a few pictures of the two of them together when she was very young. Previously she would ask about him to he mother wondering where he is, what happened to him and why he’s not there with them. Her mother would always avoid the subject and shut down when the thought of him came up in conversation. Finally she reveals that her that her father died when she was 3 years old in a car accident. Because she still loved him she would never consider remarrying any one as it would seem like he was being replaced.

Mother- her name is never mentioned. She appears to be a very frail broken woman who after 17 years after her husbands ‘death’ still appears to be losing herself and still at rock bottom. I want the audience to feel sorry for her but by the end we find out that she was lying about the whole thing. She drinks to drown her sorrows and to forget about the past. However she is hiding and keeping a huge secret away from her only child about her father.

The strange man- a mysterious man shown throughout the film however we are fully unaware of who he is until the very end of the film. He appears to be a creepy middle-aged man who lives alone in a well kept apartment. Throughout the film we only see small parts of him at a time for example his eyes, mouth or hands etc to help build the suspension and the overall freakish nature of the man. By the end of the film the audience will find out who he really is (Kelly father) who’s only intentions are to see his daughter and make up for lost time.

Kelly has an average school life. She tries to keep up and on top of her work etc. But at times she finds it difficult to balance out her workload and looking after her mother who has a drinking problem. She doesn’t seem to have many friends/ close friends as she tends to focus most of her attention on her mother.
