Audition for a film that witnesses a Nazi execution with a difference.
Job ID: 7701
Job Specifics:

Details:
Actors of all ages are invited to audition for short film about Nazi Officers executing Jewish men.
We are looking for actors to feature within a unique short film that explores the execution of Jews after the liquidation of a Polish ghetto.
Once completed, we are expecting to take this film to numerous festivals and this distinctive short will offer actors great exposure.
SYNOPSIS:
Walking along a line of Jewish men, a superior Nazi Officer conducts executions with his pistol. Whilst the Officer shoots these remaining Jews, an additional two Officers watch. Uneasy and agitated by the executions, a younger Officer finds it difficult to watch.
As the Officer reaches the final man, his gun runs out of ammunition. He crouches down to the Jew, grabbing him by his throat, taunting him. This provokes the Jewish man to recall a happier memory from his life.
Recalling upon a time when he was a child, learning how to hunt with his father, the pair spot a deer in the woods. Guiding his son, the father encourages him to shoot the animal. However, as the child begins to align the deer in the gun’s sight, a butterfly lands on the barrel of the gun, preventing the young boy from killing the animal.
Returning to the present, time hasn’t moved and the Jew remains in the Officer’s grasp. The Officer calls upon the younger Officer to complete the last execution. The Officer tells the Jew to stand up and run. After a moment of shock and confusion, he begins to run. The younger officer is instructed to shoot the Jew, depicting a hunting scene similar to what we see within the character’s memory. The young Officer, shaken and uneasy with the act of killing, notices a butterfly on the barrel of his gun. This results in him lowering his firearm and the man escaping the scene.
So who are we looking for?
We are looking for a selection of male actors of all ages. Though we're based in Bournemouth, the casting is open to actors from across the South of England. Although all roles won’t be paid for, you can expect us to cover your expenses.
With filming expected to take place in March 2014, a short list of applicants will be invited to audition for final casting in early 2014.
CHARACTERS:
-- The Jewish Man --
Although a non-speaking role, this character will need to convey deep emotion and is fundamental for portraying the conditions Jews faced during their time in the ghettos. Courageous in the face of death, unlike the other Jews who we hear muttering and begging for mercy, he is silent. This evokes the German Officer to taunt the Jew.
Attributes:
- Slim build
- Height - below 5ft 8”
-- The German Officer --
Monstrous and inhumane, the Officer shows no mercy to the Jews. He revels in the suffering and execution of these Jewish men. Fluent in German with a strong German accent and fueled with rage the character must be able to demonstrate the aggression and hostility most Nazi’s inflicted upon the Jews.
Attributes:
- Tall (around 6ft)
- Toned and physically fit
- Clean shaven
- Short dark hair
- Dark eyes
-- The Younger Officer --
Uncomfortable and nervous in the presence of the executions, he is an innocent looking young man with an Aryan complexion. He will ultimately defy the attributes we associate with Nazis. His actions will not excuse those of others, but will represent how as a body of people, some Germans had little choice but to join the Nazi regime.
Attributes:
- Average height (taller than the Jewish man, but smaller than the main Officer)
- Aryan complexion
-- The Jew’s Father --
A gentle man who is caring and patient when teaching his son how to shoot. He is a farmer, a man of the land who appreciates nature. He must come across as calm and nurturing.
Attributes:
- Friendly looking
- Fatherly
-- Other German Officer --
This character must remain unfazed throughout the execution of the Jewish men. It is this character’s responsibility to represent the norm, as many Nazi officers would watch and see little issue with executing Jews.
Attributes:
- Dark short hair
- Clean shaven
-- Extras, Jewish Men --
Praying and begging for their lives, they need to fear death. The Officer’s ignorance of their pleas will show how little respect the Nazis had for Jews.
Attributes:
- Slim build
- Dark hair
- Around 5ft 8”
