Nicholas eventually met his wife Sarah and the two had a son together. The years went by and Nicholas’s career was going downhill as he could not compete with the competition. He eventually came across the cases of Selphie Teller, inspired he felt he should write a book about her, however it was hard to get much evidence and information due to her being in a mental hospital.
Nicholas’s wife left them and he only got to see his son on weekends. He went into a depression, started drinking and only cared about his story and his son. He bought his project idea to his friend Lindsey who was willing to lend him a hand. Also his friendship with Lindsey has become strained as Lindsey has become a different character since the death of his daughter.
Upon the opening of the film, Nicholas has severe writer’s block and is struggling to get anywhere. His last hope is his friend Lindsey Fairhart who is trying to get him an interview with the infamous Selphie Teller.
Nicholas is deep into his divorce and is enjoying spending time with his son, however Nicholas barely sleeps or looks after himself and has gotten himself into a rough state. He spends hours in his writing studio trying to research and write more of his story, to his failure.
