We are looking to cast the following characters:-

Refe – Male, 18-25, dark hair/complexion preferable.
A troubled young man whose personal pain has been amplified and riled up by political and ideological literature.

As a child Refe was smuggled out of his home country by his father who had fallen afoul of the ruling regime. When his father is allowed to join the family years later, Refe, then a promising and bright teenager, struggles to cope with the effects of the violent torture that has made his father a mere shell of the man he used to be.
Now he is consumed by thoughts of personal revenge which are masked and justified by righteous ideals of justice and doing a service to his beleaguered people.

This is an interesting and challenging role for a talented actor that will carry the whole dynamic and credibility of the play. The actor must be able to portray menace on stage, demonstrate the conflicted nature of Refe’s character and embody the complexity of the emotions that have driven him to this point.


Theo – Male, 30-50, black/ dark-skinned, carries a bit of weight
A former immigrant with an earthy character who for years has put all of his energy and ambition into providing a stable home for his family and creating a better future for his children.

Theo is the senior security guard at the school and has recently used his influence to employ Refe, the long-term unemployed son of an acquaintance. Presently, he is anticipating a possible promotion and is thus particularly dedicated to running everything by the book.
Despite Theo’s accent being mild it begins to revert as his tension builds through the play. An ability to deliver a believable African or Caribbean accent is necessary.

Zizi – Male, 18- 25, dark hair/complexion preferable, good-looking
The eldest son of a ruling dictator who is spending his youth enjoying the freedom of living in the West where he has a reputation for being the life of the party and a bit of a womaniser.

Zizi has spent most of his life studying overseas, though his father's plan is for him to return home to ultimately take over ruling his home country. He is aware of the political and social issues surrounding his father’s leadership in his home country, but tries to keep them at the back of his mind as much as possible.

This role is vitally important in shaping the dynamic of the play. The actor should be able to portray Zizi’s seemingly happy-go-lucky attitude to life, which later shifts to reveal a more troubled persona of someone who was born into circumstances he feels powerless to change.


Alexia – Female, (able to play) 30- 40, professional-looking, attractive
A usually aloof and highly professional administrator at the school whose cool demeanour has been badly shaken by the backlash of her fling with a student.

The disastrous ending of her brief affair with student Zizi has left Alexia questioning herself and her future in the post. She is desperate to get back into contact with Zizi, who has been ignoring her. She leans on Theo for emotional support and feels betrayed to find that her former confidante is now only concerned about his impending promotion.
