'CELIA' is an exciting dark magical realism film inspired by the likes of Guillermo del Toro\'s Pans Labyrinth as well as other classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Where the Wild Things Are and The Wizard of Oz. It will be shot in London with a possibility of going to Oxfordshire for a night. It is a student film shot on 16mm so unfortunately it will only be expenses, but if we can raise a higher budget, some extra money may be available.

The story is an enchanting, but dark response to a family crisis, shown through a child\'s eyes, in which a child uses her dream world to deal with the harshness and uncertainty of the outer world. She discovers two mythical creatures/monster that live in a world under her bed and she must follow them under to face her inner monster.

More in depth synopsis:

Celia is a child heroine whose world is threatened by her mother\'s sudden departure, and is left with a father who is unable to support her. With a child in distress, and unable to cope, he spikes her hot milk with brandy and sends her off to sleep. She is awoken by a tug on her duvet, and is greeted by two monsters who say they live under her bed. They tell her to see their world, and unsure whether she is dreaming or not, she follows the creatures under her bed and is transported to a land in the middle of the woods. In this land, she is spun around and played with until the spinning wont stop and things become sinister. She is confronted with her inner monster.

In her decision to face the monster and confront her fears of the outer world, she enables herself to become strong. When her father pulls open the curtains the next morning she slowly shifts back to the outer world, but to her surprise, her voice has changed; it appears to have a slight growl to it. When she is alone again in her room, she checks her reflection in the mirror, which at first she appears normal...but is she? There is a mischievous glint in her eye and her mouth begins to smile. She has become strong.

Actors:

I am looking for actors to play the mother and father who will also play the roles of the creatures under the bed so will have to be comfortable wearing face masks and heavy prosthetics. They have to be confident movement actors. eg their body has to speak emotions. Dance experience would help but not essential. Actors to look between the ages of 20-30.

I am looking for a child to play the role of Celia. She needs to look around 7 years old so potentially looking at someone between the ages of 6-11.
Parents need to be open and comfortable. it would be great to find parents that act as well and could potentially play the mother or father.

The child needs to be cheeky and confident, but can also play shy. Ideally she needs to be a little monster at heart!
