Details:

AMERICAN ALIENS is a new full-length drama by playwright Caleb Estes, a Texan living in London. Caleb has been acting for about 20 years, and has performed in over 100 plays and musicals. He studied at the University of Houston, where he earned a BFA in playwriting, and took master courses with acclaimed playwrights, Edward Albee and Mark Medoff. During his studies, Caleb founded LookOut Theatre and Arts Collective, with which he directed and produced multiple plays, including his personal favourite, FOOL FOR LOVE, by Sam Shepard. A few years after graduation, Caleb headed to New York City, where he lived and worked for 3 years. During this time, he directed workshops of new plays, acted in readings, and wrote. He then moved to London at the behest of his \'\'day job\'\', and is now plotting his return to NYC, where he will soon attend graduate school, to earn an MFA. (He will be in London until Christmas, or longer.)

AFTER THE READING...if all goes well, we will plan a workshop of the play, which will include higher day rates: £20 on the rehearsal day, and £30 on the rehearsal/performance day.

REGARDING PAYMENT...You are all worth more than Caleb is able to provide. Please consider the £15 (for the first, non-rehearsed reading) and the snacks provided, as a small way of expressing gratitude for your efforts.

CAST REQUIREMENTS...because this is just a reading/workshop, we are not concerned with age and ethnicity, nor any other physical attribute. We just need passionate, hungry artists. However, we do ask that you consider whether you can bring one (or more) of the following characters to life:

CAST
Maria (17) ... her parents are Honduran
Roberto (28) ... Maria\'s brother, his parents are Honduran
Anna (late 30s - early 40s) ... Maria\'s mother, Honduran living in America for many years

Jackson (16) ... Caucasian American
Rhianna (13) ... his sister, Caucasian American
Jon (late 30s - early 40s) his father, Caucasian American
Caty (late 30s - early 40s) his mother, Caucasian American
Shelley (late 60s+) his grandma, Caucasian American

TO APPLY…simply email Caleb, introducing yourself, and providing your availability, between now and May 14th. A CV is not required, but is encouraged, if available. Otherwise, please write a couple paragraphs describing yourself as an actor, and/or a theatre artist, generally. A photo is also encouraged, but it doesn’t need to be anything more than a selfie from a smartphone, or even a public social media profile…though headshots are great, if you have them.
