AUDITION NOTICE – The Maternal Instinct

Atomic Force Productions (Winner - Best International Act, Latest Fringe awards 2012, Winner - Impact Award Brighton Fringe 2012) are proud to announce their upcoming production of Monica Bauer's The Maternal Instinct at the Brighton Festival Fringe 2013, directed by Chris Hislop (A Fistful of Snow - nominated for Best Theatre Production, Brighton Fringe 2009). The show will be performed at 19:30/20:00 from May 29 – June 1 at The Dukebox Theatre.

Sarah wants a baby. Lilian doesn’t. What causes the maternal instinct? Can it be removed, or remain dormant? This couple have life-changing decisions to make. “Theatre at its best” (nytheatre.com).

We're looking for 5 actors (1 male, 4 female) and an Assistant Director. See below for character breakdowns.

SARAH – (female, 30s) – teacher of autistic children, married to Lillian – friendly, natural, a little neurotic

LILLIAN – (female, late 30s) – brilliant biochemist, recovering alcoholic, married to Sarah – sharp, acerbic, snappy

FRED – (male, 50s) – Lillian's mentor and research partner – avuncular, pleasant, repressed, refined

EMMA – (female, early 30s) – Lillian's sister, psychologist, mother of two – clever, warm, forward-thinking

TERRY – (female, teens/early 20s) – homeless, alcoholic, semi-mute – confused, strange, striking

Auditions will be held on March 2 (15:00 – 17:00) or March 3 (14:00 – 18:00) – we will need you for a 10 minute slot between either of those times, please apply with your available times.

You will need to be free to rehearse some weekends from March – May, Saturdays 10:00 – 16:00/17:00 and Sundays 14:00 – 18:00, dates to be confirmed. The first rehearsal will be the weekend of April 6-7. We will also need you to be generally available from May 25 for tech and get-in, although we will make concessions for performers who need to work daytimes.

The production is an equal profit-share between all performers, the director and the producer.

Rehearsals are in Brighton, bring a speech that suits the character!

Please email Chris or Mill if you'd like to come to audition,
