Experience & Qualifications

General Experience

I'm a Freelance Broadcast Journalist for Radio Plymouth, a new local radio station for the city. I read the news and put together the bulletins, obtain interviews and report on events taking place in the city.

I volunteer at Hospital Radio Plymouth where I produce and present a number of programmes. I'm currently the entertainment reporter and have the opportunity to attend press nights and review productions at the Theatre Royal Plymouth. I present a two hour Sunday show called 'Something Sweet'. It includes feel-good music from throughout the decades, covers local and national sport, theatre and cinema releases and music/DVD releases. I produce a Wednesday evening request programme, and I also co-host a news/magazine programme called ‘The Friday Edition’. It covers local and national news, interviews, and sports coverage. I was awarded ‘Best Newcomer’ at Hospital Radio Plymouth’s 40th anniversary dinner.

I have some TV experience including being the TV presenter for the Student's Union during my final year where I covered a number of student led events and interviewed bands. I also presented at the national finals of Flux 2008, a student business event, where I interviewed students and business men and women who acted as judges. I thoroughly enjoy public speaking and have presented to students in lectures and have also presented at a number of conferences.

I volunteer at the Theatre Royal Plymouth where I am a Post-Show Question and Answer Host. The role involves liaising with Theatre staff to ensure the correct seating and refreshments are available at the end of a production. I facilitate the question and answer session held at the end of a production where members of the audience can ask the Company and Cast questions.

An example of a presenting project was when I was filmed by Twofour in a short student video snapshot showcasing 'My graduation', which currently features on the University of Plymouth website: http://www.plymouth.ac.uk/pages/view.asp?page=19964 (Click on 'Sophie: My graduation' to view).
I have also worked on an induction video for students explaining the services available to them at the University, to be made available during induction week.
