Radio reporter: Reported on many sports - football, cricket, show jumping, table tennis and others - for BBC and commercial TV and radio, including BBC South, BBC London, Meridian TV, BBC Radio Nottingham, BBC Southern Counties Radio and BRMB.

Press Officer/Senior Press Officer: Have worked at Number 10, Ministry of Justice, Department for Education, Department of Work and Pensions and many other government departments and agencies.

Co-managed the main Twitter account for British Transport Police, answering queries from the public, and providing second-screen material accompanying proactive and reactive media announcements.

I wrote articles for the websites of British Transport Police, Highways England and London Development Agency, where I also uploaded material.

I managed a pilot for the Ministry of Justice and Highways England, considering comments left by the public on media websites.

Crisis communications: In addition to media handling on several occasions, including royal funerals, rail crashes and protests by Fathers 4 Justice, I was seconded to DEFRA at the start of the 2001 foot-and-mouth outbreak; attended COBRA meetings for the Cabinet Office, to discuss handling in the event of the death of senior members of the royal family; worked on a counter-terrorism strategy for British Transport Police; I have taken part of several emergency exercises for different employers, and was a member of a resilience team at Highways England that considered major incidents on UK motorways

Stakeholder relations: Cleared all regional communications for Highways England – FOI responses; letters to MPs and road users; oversaw copy for exhibition banners, videos, posters and leaflets where public consulted on road improvements.

BT – I gave talks to local groups about the company’s products and services

Internal communications – I managed staff competitions at BT, devising puzzles, and organising prizes. At all my roles, I have advised internal comms colleagues on matters of media interest involving staff, such as job cuts and security.
