Hidden (working title) is a short film, based on a true story. It tells the story of a young Vietnamese boy named Hung, trafficked abroad and forced to work in a cannabis factory. The film will explore Hung’s personal journey in a claustrophobic, visceral and at times nightmarish style. The film is directed by award-winning filmmaker Prano Bailey-Bond and shot by BAFTA winning cinematographer Annika Summerson. It is being produced under the Soul Rebel Films umbrella and will be submitted to a human trafficking film competition as well as to film festivals in the UK and abroad.

Whilst the films’ look will be quite stylized we are seeking a strong cast who will carry the characters’ emotions truthfully and with both clarity and subtlety. Please apply with a link to your showreel or video example of your previous work if possible.

Shooting will take place between the 5th & 9th of July for a maximum of 2 consecutive days. Filming will be in London and we are able to cover expenses.

HUNG
Vietnamese boy. Lead character. 16 years, but can look older. Hung is trafficked abroad from Vietnam on the promise of a job that will allow him to support his family. His father has fallen ill and can no longer work. His family put a loan out against their home and land in order to send him abroad to work. We are seeking an actor who can speak both Vietnamese and English.

CHINH
Vietnamese boy. 16-20 years. Chinh travels to the UK in the van with Hung. This is a non-speaking part. Chinh appears in the first scene of the film.


QUAN
Vietnamese man. 30-40 years. Quan is a trafficker. He is well-built and does what he needs to do to in order to get his way, whether that be to beat someone or force-feed someone. We would like to hear from actors who have some experience in screen/stage fighting. This is a very physical and important role, but please note we will never see this characters’ face fully. We are seeking an actor who can speak both Vietnamese and English.

TRAFFICKER 2
Vietnamese man. 20-30 years. Well-built. Experience in screen/stage fighting preferable. This is a very physical role, but we will never see this characters’ face fully. Non-speaking part.

HUNG’s MOTHER
Vietnamese woman. 40-50 years. This is a non-speaking part.

NGON – TRANSLATOR
Vietnamese woman. 30-40 years. A professional translator, so we are looking for someone with well-spoken English and Vietnamese. She is a kind, professional woman. Seeking an experienced actress for this role, which appears in one of the most crucial scenes in the film.
