Details:

Lisa – Is in her twenties, short statured (under 4ft 10” either short statured or with dwarfism) – she is instantly attractive because of her relaxed manner and easy wit. She has the gift of the gab. Lisa’s barrier to life is herself.

She refuses to see herself as a little person and by doing so denies a part of who she is. She is vivacious, bubbly & out going. It is important that the audience falls in love with Lisa.

We are currently casting a new Channel 4 drama called Cast Offs.

This is a 6 part drama focusing on 6 characters, each with a different disability. This series will become a landmark in British television when six disabled people are shipped to a remote and utterly desolate island with six sheep and eighteen chickens. They will fend for themselves for six months.

The series follows their hardships as they build their own homes, grow their own food, fall in love and fight for survival. Welcome to Cast Offs. Actually the series is entirely fictional.

Written by Jack Thorne and staring some of the UK’s leading disabled actors, Cast Offs will draw on the real experiences of the cast to provide a compelling, subversive, blackly comic and brutally honest insight into the lives of disabled people in the UK today.

All of the stories featured in the series will be entirely realistic and true to life. Two (fictional) producers dream up the idea of placing six disabled people on a deserted island in a misguided hunger for good telly ratings.

The series, as such, takes the form of a faux documentary; six hours, six characters – each episode will focus on one.

As the Cast Offs struggle to overcome the challenges presented by living on the island, so we learn who they are through “flashbacks” to the year leading up to the marooning, during which time, in the fictional reality presented by the series, the six Cast Offs were followed by documentary crews.

The stories will always be darkly comic, poignant and sometimes surreal, but also give us opportunity to address some of the many misconceptions about disabled people. The Approach Jack Thorne (the writer) has just written The Scouting Book for Boys and is currently writing series two of "Skins", having written episodes of the first series.

His other TV writing includes "Shameless" and the 30 minute drama "The Spastic King". Jack is currently Perason Writer-in Residence at the Bush Theatre. Jack is keen to work with the actors to hang the script from their actual experiences, asking them what hasn’t been said publicly about living with their condition that they would like to get across.

The more surprising and controversial the better. It is shooting in Nottingham, Norfolk and London between 22nd March – 11th May (dates to be confirmed).

It would require probably 3 weeks in total plus 1 or 2 rehearsal days. We have already cast 4 of the 6 roles but are still looking to cast the roles of Lisa and Dan.

Whilst it is not necessary for people to have previous acting experience they must be open and confident and able to hold their own in front of a camera crew:
