Details:

Experienced Children's Theatre performers required to tour with our brand new show, Duck in the Truck.

(You must have a full, clean driving licence due to the nature of this job)

The contract?
Rehearsals in Newark, Notts from 19th - 30th Jan 2015 and then touring until 31st July 2015.

Who we are?
First of all, we love working with children! We specialise in beautiful productions for children and family audiences and we are one of the leading companies in our field. Our shows are for 3 - 7 year olds and their grown-ups.

We are based in Newark, Nottinghamshire and tour to theatres, festivals and schools across the UK and internationally.

Our shows are beautiful and we are very proud of the productions we create, offering our young audience the perfect introduction to live theatre. Our style is physical, highly interactive, and incorporates beautiful puppetry, original music, and magical scenery.

What we're looking for?
Well, if you LOVE working with children, too, you're already well on the way! If you're fun to be around, you're getting even closer still. We are looking for two very special 'all-rounders' to join our company.

You will need to have a good general level of fitness, great comedy skills and sing well. You should also have some experience of working with puppets, or at the very least, be able to demonstrate a willingness to learn new skills in puppetry.

We are a touring company, so please remember that you need to be prepared for the inevitable rigours of touring; being away from home, spending lots of time with the same faces, early starts, get ins, get outs, lifting and carrying.

We tour to SCHOOLS and THEATRE venues and we also offer follow-on workshops in each school we visit, so this will form part of your job role too. But, our workshops are as much fun as the shows!

Because you are part of a small touring team, there will be the inevitable admin jobs that need to be done on a daily and weekly basis, so you will need to be organised, computer literate, articulate and have a good manner both in person and on the phone. If you feel that paperwork is best left to others, then this job might not be for you, - sorry.

Finally, you must have a great deal of experience in working for children (3 - 7 year olds), and your CV will reflect this. If you LOVE working with children, show us!

This is a brilliant opportunity to work with a fantastic company, so we are looking for people who already have touring experience. If you're prepared to roll up your sleeves, are not afraid of hard work, have a brilliant sense of humour, and and want to be part of an amazing adventure, then we'd love to hear from you.

What you will be playing?

Character 1 - Duck
Well, what can we say - Duck is the main character in the show. He's naughty, cheeky, silly and loves to get his own way.

For the children in the audience, Duck is something like their naughty little brother! But, it's not all noise and quacking, as Duck is also loveable, caring and kind-hearted. We want the children to fall in love with Duck and want to join him on his journey.

For the actor playing the role, this is a gem of a role, - but our shows are highly interactive, and physically demanding. If you enjoy throwing yourself physically into a part, and you're very , very comfortable interacting with children, then you're perfect for this role!

It's a lovely role to play.

Character 2 – Mr Goat and others
Duck is very similar to Toad of Toad Hall, and all of the other characters in the show spend their time trying to point him on the right path. For the actor taking on all of the other roles, we're obviously looking for somebody who is happy to play multiple roles to a very high standard. You'll be busy onstage (and off), but it's a fantastic role to play. You will be bringing to life:

MR GOAT
In his late 60's, ex-military, firm but fair, bold, upright, a formidable presence onstage, full of solutions, but tends to make a meal out of everything. Friendly, big-hearted, extrovert (think Simon Callow in Four Weddings).

FROG
The Jiminy Cricket of the story, - this is a hand-puppet character you will operate. He is like an older sibling to Duck, wise beyond his years, an old head on young shoulders, - all to great comic effect.

MRS LAMB
A woolly, nervous, bleating, neurotic sheep, - she's physically always on her tip-toes, never seems to stand still and spends a great deal of time either worrying or hiding. She's Duck's long-suffering comic sidekick.

SECONDARY CHARACTERS
Then, of course, there's all of the other secondary characters; an onion who can't stop crying, a bunch of carrots who never stop moaning, and an Old English Spud who doesn't have a funny bone.

Salary
You will be paid £425 per working week, including all rehearsals. We will also provide and pay for accommodation throughout your contract.

Would you like to apply for the job?

Yes? That's brilliant! If you are a genuine team player, and would seriously like to be considered for this role, then please email a covering letter and CV explaining why you're the right person for the job to admin@blunderbus.co.uk

Individual auditions will be held on Tuesday 6th & Wednesday 7th January 2015 at our base in Newark, Nottinghamshire.

So, what are you waiting for? See you soon!
